Genotropin, also known as human growth hormone (HGH), is a hormone generated in the human body and released into the bloodstream by the anterior pituitary gland's somatotrope cells. It is a single-chain protein with a molecular weight of around 22,000 Daltons and is composed of 191 amino acids.
The consequences of GH secretion on the human body are numerous, both direct and indirect. First, GH increases the creation of insulin-like growth factor by the liver (IGH-1). Because GH increases the creation of IGF-1 by the liver, the effects of both GH and IGF-1 are outlined below.
Somatropin is a synthetic form of Human Growth Hormone (191 amino acid sequence growth hormone). Somatropin is the same as the human body's own GH.
Genotropin is used to treat the following conditions: growth hormone deficiency, small gestational age (SGA) and intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), idiopathic short stature, AIDS wasting and cachexia, Turner's Syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome, growth problems caused by Short Bowel Syndrome, improper growth in children with renal disease, body building enhancement drug, weight loss drug, anti-aging drug, treatment for children with rheumatoid arthritis
